Entrepreneurship in Taiwan

7 students at Beitou Hot Springs forming UNI

The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, in conjunction with UNIBusiness, offered MKTG 2186 Studies in Entrepreneurial Ventures: Taiwan for business and non-business majors from May 12-20, 2012 in Taipai City, Taiwan. The program was an intensive nine-day study of entrepreneurship, small business, culture, history, language, and politics. Eight hours of pre-trip preparation were also required. Seven UNI students were selected through an application, essay, and interview process to participate in the course.

For the aspiring entrepreneur, international experience is essential. Asian markets and partners are necessary for many U.S. businesses. This short, study-abroad program provided the student entrepreneurs with education in and exposure to Taiwanese and Chinese business practices and culture. The program was held on the main campus of National Chengchi University in the city of Taipei. Students explored corporations and small businesses, learned about the dynamic night markets, and visited historical, cultural, and political sites.
